Our 2nd day we cleared a campsite and some trails, it was pretty cold. We lopped invasive species and raked leaves and picked up trash.
This is a differen day where we cleared more of the same trail. These other guys are Parks & People workers that we made the log bench we're sitting on with.
On this is from the beginning from when we worked with some college volunteers spreading mulch around trees in a park in the middle of the city.
Becca and I dug up a dead tree, the roots were covered in clay that stained my pants orange.
Donuts, not volcanoes...
Sometimes you just gotta jump right in and get dirty.
We dug some pits and planted some trees, this is a mud man that Roy and I made. His name is Bob
After spreading mulch around trees at this school we went back and spread leaf grow over the field. the best way to spread is right here...

You can't really tell but my face is super dirty from the wind blowing the leaf grow in my face- it was also in my hair from me throwing it up in the air all day ha!
The next day which was yesterday, we went back to that field and spread more leaf grow then we sprinkled hay across it. By then I remembered I'm allergic to hay. My arms and legs broke out and I've never been more itchy. So we went to Rite Aid and I took some benedryl- I fought off the drowsiness with 2 energy drinks and a shovel. Another side effect is exciteability which made me sing at lunch. And I have some crazy quotes in the team journal like "I need to tan my shins!" and "Maybe it's because Ihave soil in my ears" and "Can I dust off your butt? You have hay on it" and "Oh no! There's hay in my phone!"
Today we went canvassing around the city neighborhoods.
It goes like this:
Wearing uniforms in groups of 3 all with clipboards, walk up to the door
Ring doorbell/Knock
Would you like a free tree?
No.
Ok.
Walk to next house.
But then... this dog came. And it followed us around for 2 hours. So we brought her back to lunch with us. Then we spent the afternoon trying to find Rio's home. Our team name is Team R.I.O. as in Team Rock It Out. So we named her Rio Dogwood the First. Dogwood because it's a type of tree we're giving away and the First because she was our first team mascot (we're not allowed to have pets-not even a goldfish!) She had numbers tattooed on her belly which means she was nuetered. So we dropped her off at the BARC clinic. We all got super attached to her. When I went back to the van to get my ID to leave her my teammates said she cried. She was super cute! So today we managed to give out a few free trees, make Baltimore greener, and save a pup :)
